‌Genesis for Everyone, Part 1: Chapters 1–16 In the Beginning (Genesis 1:1, NIV)

“When God began to create the heavens and the earth”

‌Genesis doesn’t introduce the origin of God, it simple informs, “God is.”

‌By faith we believe “In the beginning God.”

‌By faith we believe “In the beginning God created.”

‌First, God is not creation.

‌Second, God is personal.

In these passages elohim refers to plural gods.

‌1. “Elohim” is the same word singular and plural.

‌2. Elohim is not His name, but it is!

‌In Scripture we will see the word “elohim” translated as either capital G “God,“ small g “god,” or “gods.”

the name could be understood as “he isbecomeswill be (come)” (Qal) or “he causes to be/become”

Whereas Elohim and Adonai were designations known to other cultures, the revelation of Yahweh was unique to Israel.

‌In Genesis 22:14, NIV, He is Yahweh-jireh, “The Lord our Provider.”

‌In Judges 6:24, NIV, Yahweh-Shalom, “The Lord is Peace.”

‌In Psalm 23:1-6, NIV He is “The Lord our Shepherd,” Yahweh-Raah.

‌In Ezekiel 48:35, NIV, He is Yahweh-Shammah, “The Lord is Here.”

I AM your provider.

Conclusion

‌Our Elohim is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

‌Yahweh, revealed in Jesus Christ, the Holy One and Son of God.

‌This Elohim, Yahweh, Yahweh saves, is greater, stronger and higher.

‌Yahweh saves.

‌Jesus Christ.
